Creature Connections

Wild About Research

Why play this way?

A child’s natural curiosity is their most powerful tool for learning. In this activity, your little one will follow an interest, ask questions, and do research to discover similarities between themselves and another species. By looking beyond surface differences, they'll build empathy and develop the ability to prioritize connection over contrast. What if everyone looked at the world this way?

Set

Choose an animal you’re curious about!

Decide how and where you’ll do your research:

  • Will you head to the library?
  • Gather books from home or school?
  • Use a computer or tablet?

Play!

Gather the resources you need to learn all about your animal!

Draw yourself on the “me” side of your Venn diagram, and your animal on the other.

Start your research! Each time you find a new fact, ask yourself:

  • Is this something I have in common with my animal?
  • Is this something different from me?

Fill out your Venn diagram:

  • Put your unique traits on the “me” side, and your animal’s on the other.
  • Show your shared qualities in the middle.

Looking forward to gifting these again!
"I have always gifted books at birthdays and these felt like a natural extension of the gifts I already give. It's nice to also be able to give my friends something that comes with additional activities they may not have thought to do."
