Let the Games Begin

A Sports Day to Remember

Why play this way?

In My GrandMom, Gee-eun and her grandmother may not have won their Family Sports Day events, but they won something even better—joy, connection, and memories. This activity brings that same spirit to life, celebrating the fun of moving together, cheering each other on, and trying your best—win or lose. As your little one tugs, races, and dances, they’ll practice perseverance, teamwork, and good sportsmanship—all while making moments worth remembering.

Cheer Dance

  • Turn to the page in your book where GrandMom shows her signature moves. Try to copy each one like Gee-eun.
  • Make up your own Cheer Dance!

Tug of War

  • Twist a bedsheet to create a rope.
  • Mark the midpoint by wrapping tape around the rope’s center and aligning it with a tape strip on the floor.
  • Grab an end and tug, tug, tug!

Race to the Finish

  • Mark the start and finish lines with painter’s tape.
  • Decide on your race style (e.g., sprint, crab walk, rabbit hop, etc.) and go!
  • Place pillows to jump over, chairs to zig-zag around, or stuffed animals to pick up along the way for extra fun.

associated activities are amazing!
"They not only help my grandson see the relationship between an exciting subject and the real-world principles involved, but they also strongly personalize the experience for him. He learns that reading is fun, and that learning satisfies his natural curiosity."

Looking forward to gifting these again!
"I have always gifted books at birthdays and these felt like a natural extension of the gifts I already give. It's nice to also be able to give my friends something that comes with additional activities they may not have thought to do."
